Whilst researching for this project one of the photographers who has grabbed me the most is perhaps one of the most influential and best known of his kind ; Yousef Karsh. Here I will look at how he differs from other photograhers and what his personal approach was to taking studio portraits.
The beggining of his career - Karsh Began to take an interest in photography from a young age when he would assist his uncle in his photograhic studio. His uncle noticed a great natural flare and passion in his nephue and made an appointment for his to be an apprentice with a portrait photographer named John garro for a few years. Later karsh returned as a young man to canda where he set up his own photographic studio, here he became more whidly recognised and began taking photos of the canadian Priminister, It was around this time that Karsh took one of his most notable and iconic pictures, a portrait of Winston churchill after he had given a speach at the Canadian house of commons.
Individual Style - One of Karsh's main talents came with lighting, he had natural skill with studio lighting and how best to light up his subject, notably he would light the subjects hand seperately to the rest of there body. He had a gift for capturing the essence of his subject, often photographing celebrities and politicians.
